Genres of Light novels, Manga, and Anime
There are many different genres in light novels. I will
provide examples for each one.
Action is one of
the most common genres. It usually
contain a lack of substance, but the action scenes in it makes up for what it
lacks. You usually don’t find a light novel with just the action genre. It is
usually paired us with other genres.
Fullmetal Alchemist
Comedy is also a
common genre. The genre’s name tells it
all. If the light novel has the genre comedy, it will have humor. No doubt
about that. This genre is very vague and do have many subgenres such as Parody.
Nichijou
The Demon genre
is a genre that has demons and other evil spirits. (Plain and simple) This is
also supernatural.
Blue Exorcist
Fantasy is a
genre that has magical worlds, magical powers, and monsters. (If you read a
fairy tale, this is basically close to that)
Drama is usually
filled with suspense and emotion. It is always have a well developed story and
has well developed characters. (Most of the time… I am looking at you,
Glasslip.)
Romance is a
genre for those who love those love stories. The story usually have talk about
two characters and how their love progresses.
Clannad (Prepare to
cry even more)
Mecha is a genre
that is similar to the action genre. The only difference is that this genre has
the characters controling big robots. (Not transformers)
Code Geass
Music genre is a
genre that deals with music. Mostly is shown with the romance genre.
Gosick (my favorite light novel series)
Death note (my mentor’s
favorite manga)
School is a genre
that contains school life. (Yes, it is about the life of the place where we get
our education)
Kokoro Connect
Historical is a
genre that has the historical aspect in it. It usually takes place in a
specific time period.
Sci fi (If you
know what science fiction is, then you know what this is.)
Steins;Gate (My
favorite anime)
Slice of life is
a genre that is usually a story about someone’s life.
Prince of Tennis
Vampire is a
genre that has vampires. (Yes, there are Vampires) Sometimes manga will portray these
vampires in a bright side
Seraph of the end
I shall not name the rest because some of them are sub genres
or too inappropriate to discuss about.
