I am going to bring up a topic that is quite controversial. Is Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra considered an anime? The reason why I am talking about this issue is because when I mentioned anime to people, they will come up with these two titles. As an avid anime fan, this sometimes frustrates me.

My answer to that question is No. Absolutely not. Although there are claims that it could be with great reasons why it should be, I am still not convinced.

Here is my proof.

If you look for the definition of Anime on Google, here is what comes up. Anime is a style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children. Is the Legend of Korra or the Last Airbender from Japan? No. It was created in America not in Japan. Some people will try to use the Japanese definition of Anime to prove a point why it should be. They use the fact that Japanese considered anime as the reference to all types of animation. Since these two titles are animation, they should be considered as anime.

Although this might be true, there is a problem to this fact. If all animations are considered as anime, this meant that all cartoons like Ninja Turtles will be considered as anime even if it is not in the way or form of what an anime will usually look like. The reason why people are using the fact by using what all Japanese considered anime is to support their claim is because this thing looks like anime. The artwork and the style is similar to anime. I had to admit that it do look similar, but that still won't convince me.

Although their support of their claim is strong, they failed to see what us foreigner identify anime as. In truth, we define anime as what Google defines it. There is no doubt about that. Who cares about what do Japanese think. We should look at our viewpoint not theirs even though they are the creators of anime. By looking at what we usually anime, the fact that these two titles are not created in America truly gives the point that it is not even anime. It is just a cartoon series. No, let me make myself even more descriptive.

It is anime inspired cartoon series.The answer is plain and simple.
